What is Ethylene glycol CAS 107-21-1?
Ethylene glycol is a colourless, sweet-smelling viscous liquid that is miscible with a wide range of substances. Pure ethylene glycol has the nature of alcohol, mainly used in the production of antifreeze, polyester fibre, polyester resin, also used as a moisturising agent for cosmetics, etc. MEG is poisonous and its vapour is flammable, so the use of it should be careful about the safety.
Applications：
- Antifreeze: Ethylene glycol is the main component of automotive antifreeze, preventing the automotive cooling system from freezing at low temperatures while raising the boiling point to prevent the system from boiling at high temperatures.
- Polyester Fibre: Used in the production of polyester fibre, commonly known as polyester, which is widely used in textiles such as clothing and home textiles.
- Polyester Resin: MEG chemical is an important raw material for the manufacture of unsaturated polyester resin, which is used in the production of glass fibre reinforced plastic products, coatings and adhesives.
- Others: Ethylene glycol liquid is used as humectant, plasticiser, etc. in cosmetics, toothpaste, ink, paint, etc.; it can also be used as solvent for cleaning electronic components, etc.
