It is a colorless liquid with a characteristic sweet, aromatic odour. As the most valuable xylene isomer for the chemical industry, o-xylene is the primary feedstock for phthalic anhydride (PA) production and an important high-boiling solvent in coatings, adhesives and inks.

Ortho-xylene is an important chemical intermediate with wide downstream applications, mainly including:
1. Production of phthalic anhydride (PA)
