Trifluoromethanesulfonic acid is a colorless to light yellow liquid; it has high solubility at room temperature without solvent, and can be dissolved in water and many organic solvents; it is a strong acid, and can react with alkali to produce the corresponding salt; it has strong oxidizing and corrosive properties to most common substances. Triflic acid is widely used in organic synthesis reaction, especially used as selective heterogeneous acid catalyst together with activator. It can be used as solvent and catalyst in organic synthesis.
