What is 1-Octanol CAS 111-87-5?
1-Octanol is a colourless liquid at room temperature and pressure, can be dissolved in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether, insoluble in water. It has strong volatility and flammability, and its vapour can form explosive mixtures.
Applications：
- As a solvent: 1-Octanol is a good organic solvent, capable of dissolving many organic compounds.
- Production of plasticisers: It reacts with acids such as phthalic anhydride to produce plasticisers such as dioctyl phthalate (DOP).
- Surfactant synthesis: Octanol can be made into various surfactants through chemical reaction, such as fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether.
