How often do you give oxytetracycline to cattle?

Cattle: Oxytetracycline Injection may be given intramuscularly, subcutaneously, or intravenously.

Intramuscular or subcutaneous administration at a dose of 9 mg per pound of body weight is recommended for the treatment of the following conditions:

(1) Bacterial pneumonia (transport fever) in calves and yearlings caused by Pasteurella spp. that cannot be retreated due to feeding conditions, such as grazing cattle, or inadvisability of repeated girdling.

(2) Bovine infectious keratoconjunctivitis (red eye) caused by Moraxella bovis.

It may also be administered intravenously, subcutaneously, or intramuscularly at a dose of 3-5 mg oxytetracycline per pound of body weight per day. In the treatment of advanced cases of severe hoof rot and other indicated diseases, the recommended dose is 5 mg per pound of body weight per day. Treatment should be continued for 24-48 hours after resolution of disease symptoms; however, treatment should not be continued for more than 4 consecutive days. If no improvement is noted within 24-48 hours of starting treatment, consult your veterinarian.
