What is 4-Methoxyphenol (MEHQ)/Mequinol?
4-Methoxyphenol is a chemical that looks like white flaky or waxy crystals. The molecular formula is C7H8O2. It is used as a polymerization inhibitor for vinyl plastic monomers, a UV inhibitor, a dye intermediate, and an antioxidant in the synthesis of edible fats, oils and cosmetics BHA (3-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyanisole). Mequinol is an important intermediate for fine chemicals such as pharmaceuticals, spices and pesticides. Its biggest advantage is that it can be used without removing p-hydroxyanisole and can directly participate in the polymerization reaction. Hydroquinone monomethyl ether can also be used as a synthesizer, plasticizer and food additive.
Uses of Mequinol：
1. Mequinol is a commonly used high efficient polymerization inhibitor, widely used in petrochemical, organic synthesis and other fields.
2. It can be added to some polymer materials such as rubber and plastic as antioxidant to prevent aging and degradation due to oxidation during processing and use, and prolong the service life of the materials.
3. As pharmaceutical intermediates, it is used to synthesize a variety of drugs, such as for the production of p-hydroxybenzoic acid esters and other drugs.
4. It can also be used in the preparation of spices, coatings, inks and other products.
