Decanal, also known as aldehyde C-10, is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with the molecular formula C₁₀H₂₀O and molecular weight of 156.27 g/mol. It has a distinctive strong, greasy, waxy odor with citrus and floral aromas, and has a boiling point of about 207 - 209°C. It is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents. Its boiling point is about 207 - 209°C and melting point is -5°C. It is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents. It is mainly used in the flavor industry as a food additive to add fruity and waxy flavors to food and beverages, and it is also an intermediate in organic synthesis.
