Applications
Role in Nylon 6 Production
Key Intermediate: Cyclohexanone is converted into cyclohexanone oxime, which undergoes a Beckmann rearrangement to produce caprolactam, the monomer for Nylon 6.
Process: The oxidation or hydrogenation of cyclohexanone produces the necessary raw materials for polymerization.
Other uses:
Beyond Nylon, it is used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, dyes, herbicides, pesticides, and rubber chemicals.
