What is Formic Acid CAS 64-18-6?
Formic acid is an organic substance with a chemical formula of HCOOH and a molecular weight of 46.03. It is the simplest carboxylic acid. Colorless liquid with pungent odor. Weak electrolyte, strong acid, corrosive, can stimulate skin to blister. Exist in the secretions of bees, some ants and caterpillars. It is an organic chemical raw material, also used as a disinfectant and preservativ.
Uses:
1. Formic Acid is widely used in the production of leather, rubber, and textiles. In the leather industry, it is used for tanning and degreasing. In the rubber industry, it serves as a coagulant for latex.
2.It can be used as a pesticide and fungicide to prevent and control various crop diseases and pests. It is also used as a preservative and antibacterial agent for forage to prolong its storage time.
3. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used as an intermediate for the synthesis of some drugs.
4. Methanoic Acid is an important raw material for the synthesis of formate esters, formamides, and other organic compounds. It is also used in the production of dyes, perfumes, and other products.
