Acetonitrile, often abbreviated MeCN, is the chemical compound with the formula C2H3N and structure H₃C−C≡N. This colourless liquid is the simplest organic nitrile. It is miscible with water, methanol, ethanol, ether, chloroform and many other organic solvents, and is an excellent solvent.
