What is Itaconic Acid/Methylenesuccinic acid?
Itaconic acid is also known as Methylenesuccinic acid. It is an unsaturated acid containing a conjugated double bond and two carboxyl groups and is rated as one of the top 12 value-added chemicals from biomass. Itaconic acid has active chemical properties and can carry out various addition reactions, esterification reactions and polymerization reactions.
Applications in Surfactants：
1.Synthesis of Anionic Surfactants: Itaconic acid can be used as a monomer to synthesize anionic surfactants through copolymerization reactions,which are widely used in detergents, emulsifiers, and dispersants.
2.Modification of Nonionic Surfactants: Methylenesuccinic acid can be used to modify nonionic surfactants. This is of great significance for expanding the application range of nonionic surfactants in industries such as cosmetics and textiles.
3.Preparation of Amphoteric Surfactants: tI can participate in the synthesis of amphoteric surfactants. Through appropriate chemical reactions, itaconic acid can be introduced into the molecular structure of surfactants together with amino or quaternary ammonium groups. The resulting amphoteric surfactants have both anionic and cationic characteristics, showing good adaptability and performance in different pH environments, and are often used in personal care products and some special industrial cleaning agents.
Other Applications：
1. It can be copolymerized with styrene and butadiene to produce SBR latex, which is widely used in paper, metal and concrete coatings.
2. can be reacted with acrylic acid and its esters to prepare resins, which are widely used in latex coatings, leather coatings, automobile coatings, refrigerators and other electrical products.
3.Itaconic acid esters are used in coatings, ion exchange resins, lubricants, binders, plasticizers, sealants and molded plastics.
