Diphenyl ether or diphenyl oxide is an organic compound with the chemical formula C12H10O. The benzene ring activated by diphenyl ether can undergo various typical reactions of aromatic compounds such as hydroxylation, nitration, halogenation, sulfonation, Friedel-Crafts alkylation or acylation.
Diphenyl oxide is used in many fields, such as heat transfer media, fragrance additives, polyester processing aids, and the production of flame retardants.

Diphenyl Ether acts as a chemical intermediate in the production of surface active agents and high temperature lubricants, fre retardants likepolybrominated Diphenyl Ether (PBDEs) and fragrance for detergents.Diphenyl oxide plavs a vitalrole in the Ferraio reaction to produce phenoxathin, which fnds appication in polvamide and polvimide production.
Diphenyl Ether is used in the manufacture of high-temperature lubricants and surfactants, as a fragrance, particularly in soap and detergents, asa heat-transfer medium in resins for laminated electrical insulation, as a dye carrier in the production of polyesters, and as a chemicalintermediate for such reactions as halogenation, acylation, and alkylation.
