What is Ivermectin?

Ivermectin is within the family of medicines called anthelmintics. It is derived from avermectin, and it works by inhibiting some functions of the nervous system within the parasite. This leads to its paralysis and then the death of the parasite.

Ivermectin Injection is an antiparasitic drug used to treat internal and external parasites in small and large animals, such as cows and sheep. This drug is used in the treatment and prevention of nematodes such as gastrointestinal roundworms, grubs, lungworms, sucking lice and mange mites.

Can ivermectin be used on pregnant cows?

Caution is needed when ivermectin is used on pregnant heifers. Although Ivermectin is considered safe in most cases, it is not recommended for use in the early stages of pregnancy (especially the first 45 days of pregnancy) unless under the direction of a veterinarian.
This is because the early embryonic stage is more sensitive and certain drugs may adversely affect the cow. In the middle and late stages of pregnancy, ivermectin is generally considered safe, but it is still recommended that a veterinarian be consulted before use.

Precautions

  1. Ivermectin injection uses: For subcutaneous use only. Intramuscular or intravenous injections may cause toxic reactions. Do not exceed 20 ml per subcutaneous injection site.
  2. Formulation: Ivermectin injections containing glycerol formal and propylene glycol are only suitable for cattle, sheep, and pigs.
  3. Environmental Safety: Ivermectin is highly toxic to shrimp, fish, and aquatic organisms. Avoid contaminating water sources with residual drugs or packaging.
