What is Florfenicol injection?

Florfenicol is a thiamphenicol derivative, which is similar in action to chloramphenicol. It works by inhibiting protein synthesis within the bacteria. Florfenicol displays a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity against gram-negative bacilli, gram-positive cocci, and atypical bacteria like Mycoplasma.

Florfenicol Injection is an antibiotic drug used to treat or prevent certain bacterial infections in livestock and poultry.

What is Florfenicol used for in poultry?

Florfenicol is used in diseases such as avian respiratory disease (ARDC), which involves pathogens such as Pasteurella multocida and Mycoplasma fowlis.

 

How to use florfenicol injection in poultry?

  • Intramuscular injection: one dose, per 1kg body weight, chicken 0.2ml,every 48 hours, for 2 times.
  • Caution: Recent research shows that florfenicol causes kidney damage to broilers and is toxic to developing chick embryos at around day 5 of incubation.
  • Prohibited during egg-laying period of laying hens.
  • It is forbidden to use in vaccination period or animals with serious deficiency of immune function. Renal insufficiency need to reduce the amount or extend the time between doses.
