Colorless, transparent liquid, flammable, its vapor can form explosive mixture with air, and there is a danger of combustion and explosion when exposed to open flame, high heat or contact with oxidants. It can dissolve some inorganic salts, such as silver nitrate, lithium nitrate and magnesium bromide. Acetonitrile ACN can dissolve many unsaturated hydrocarbons, but not saturated hydrocarbons. It can react strongly with oxidants to form explosive mixtures.
