What is technical grade acetic acid Used for?

1. Textile and dyeing industry

Technical grade acetic acid plays a key role in the dyeing process by helping to control pH levels and improve dye fixation on synthetic fibres such as polyester and nylon. It prevents fabric damage and helps to achieve vibrant, consistent colouring.

2. Plastic and polymer manufacturing

This acid is used to produce vinyl acetate monomer (VAM), a key ingredient in polymers such as polyvinyl acetate (PVA) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH). These polymers are essential for adhesives, paints, coatings and packaging.

3. Chemical synthesis and solvent use

Technical grade acetic acid is used as a polar protic solvent and mild acid in various chemical synthesis reactions, including esterifications, the purification of organic compounds, and metal cleaning operations.

4. Cleaning and descaling agent

Its ability to dissolve limescale, mineral deposits and rust makes acetic acid a common ingredient in industrial cleaners, descalers and degreasers for use on pipes, equipment and cooling towers.

5. Water treatment

In water treatment plants, acetic acid is used to regulate pH levels, reduce scaling and facilitate the breakdown of organic compounds in wastewater, particularly during biological treatment processes.
