What is the function of oxytetracycline in animals?

 

Oxytetracycline Injection is indicated for the treatment of the following diseases caused by hygromycin-susceptible organisms in beef cattle, dairy cattle, calves (including pre-partum calves) and swine:

 

Bovine: Oxytetracycline Injection 200 is indicated for the treatment of pneumonia and complex transport fever associated with Pasteurella spp. and Haemophilus spp.; infectious bovine foot-and-mouth disease; pneumonia and complex transport fever associated with Haemophilusspp. Bovine infectious keratoconjunctivitis (red eye) caused by Moraxella catarrhalis; foot rot and diphtheria caused by Fusarium necrophorum; bacterial enteritis (ulcer disease) caused by Escherichia coli; wound infections and acute onychomycosis caused by Staphylococcus and Streptococcus spp. that are susceptible to hygromycin.

 

Swine: Oxytetracycline Injection is indicated for the treatment of bacterial enteritis (ulcer disease, colibacillosis) caused by Escherichia coli; pneumonia caused by Pasteurella multocida; and leptospirosis caused by Leptospira.

 

For sows,Oxytetracycline Injection is indicated as an aid in the control of infectious enteritis in suckling pigs caused by E. coli (piglet ulcer disease, E. coli).

Adverse Reactions of oxytetracycline injection

Reports of adverse reactions associated with oxytetracycline administration include injection site swelling, restlessness, ataxia, trembling, swelling of eyelids, ears, muzzle, anus and vulva (or scrotum and sheath in males), respiratory abnormalities (labored breathing), frothing at the mouth, collapse and possibly death. Some of these reactions may be attributed to anaphylaxis (an allergic reaction) or to cardiovascular collapse of unknown cause.
