What is Methyl Isobutyl Ketone CAS 108-10-1 ?
Methyl isobutyl ketone is a colorless liquid, stable, slightly soluble in water and most organic solvents. Commonly used as a solvent (used to dissolve tetracycline, pyrethroids and DDT, as well as oil dewaxing, etc.), inorganic salt separator, mineral processing agent, binder, rubber adhesive, cloth paint and organic synthetic raw materials. It is also used as developing solvent for PMMA in electron beam lithography.
Applications of MIBK:
1. Methyl isobutyl ketone is an excellent mid-boiling point solvent, widely used as a solvent for spray paint, nitro fibers, certain fiber ethers, camphor, oils and fats, natural and synthetic rubbers, and so on.
2. It is an effective separator for some inorganic salts, which can be used to separate plutonium from uranium, niobium from tantalum and zirconium from hafnium.
3. 4-Methyl-2-pentanone is the intermediate of rodenticide rat finished, also used in organic synthesis industry, its peroxide is an important initiator in polyester resin polymerization reaction.
3. MIBK is used as mineral processing agent, solvent for oil dewaxing, coloring agent for color film, and also used as anticoagulant and diluent for vinyl resin. In the spice industry, it is mainly used to formulate rum, cheese and fruit flavors.
